Career Development
Many explorers in the Goffstown Police Department have gone on to a part-time or a full-time position with our department or other police agencies. Goals are set for each explorer so that they are not overwhelmed with the demands of learning.A first year explorer would be expected to attend the Police Cadet Academy. After doing so, the explorer may learn communications in the Goffstown Police Department Dispatch Center. The second year Explorer may attend the Advanced Academy. After this training, the explorer may begin the "Ride-A-Long" program, eventually riding in the cruiser with a veteran officer. Explorers then progress to become Senior Cadets if they meet the criteria.
Police Cadet Training Academy
This is a weeklong academic and physical training program designed to give youths and explorers a real experience of being in a police academy. The training is demanding, the classroom topics are fascinating and the discipline is motivating. You do not have to be an explorer to attend. The Academy starts with the Basic class of 100 cadets. If you successfully complete the Basic Academy, you may attend the Advanced Academy the following year. The Advanced class is limited to 36 cadets. Only those individuals that are serious about a career in law enforcement may attend the third year, which is called the Leadership Academy. This is limited to 20 cadets.
